“In Realms Where Legends Rise”
Fantastic Fantasy Cartoons
Compiled by James B. King, this 8.5” x 5.5” book contains 60 mirth-filled single-panel cartoons from the old school days when RPGers thrilled to this type of humor.
The 10 artists featured include:
Without further ado, (and to bring a broad smile to your grim heroic visage), let’s take a look at 17 of the best ones!
Any Dragon Magazine readers out there may recall some of these gems from the hallowed “Dragon Mirth” pages (even though this book was published in 1992, its constituent comics were mostly created in the 1980s).
I love that there are several cultural references of the time captured in this tome. Here’s a couple good examples:

These are great J.Q. 😁
I always used to love all the wee funny cartoons they had in old editions of The Players Handbook and in Dragon magazine. I also remember they had a cartoon strip in White Dwarf called Thrud the Barbarian which was always a favourite 👍🏼
loved Dragon Mirth, Fineous Fingers, Wormy, all the old stuff. The April Fools edition of Dragon was a yearly highlight. the Necromancy video was fun, and the lego cathedral was amazing
