Pathfinder’s D&D roots are on display with adventure, magic, and camaraderie in this comic book fantasy RPG-based mini-series. Join Rediscovered Realms as we Wake the Dead!
The Pathfinder Role Playing Game stemmed from 3rd edition (3.5) D&D back in 2009. Even though I’ve never played it, I’ve heard nothing but good things over the years. The creators, Paizo, maintain high praise while their award-winning Pathfinder game is a top selling RPG - even outselling Dungeons & Dragons from time to time!

Products that have spawned off include video games, audio dramas, novels, card games, an adaptation for Savage Worlds RPG, and . . . comic books.

When I saw this 5-part Pathfinder comic book series from 2023 at my local comic book store, I thought I’d take a peek and see what kind of Fantasy adventure was inside.
Here’s the premise:
“The tantalizing prospect of a rendezvous with a Geb defector in possession of priceless secrets from that undead nation brings a diverse group of adventurers to the Nexian metropolis of Ecanus. When they find themselves cornered by the city's remorseless Deathsealers, can the Iconics band together for survival—and escape a city full of hostile wizards alive?”
Like Fantasy-Adventure comic books? Did you catch these recent editions of Rediscovered Realms?
Like many comic books these days, there are a slew of alternate covers (click any to expand):

The artwork is great on (and in) all of them . . .

But a person could go broke buying them all! (The full-sized pics are the versions I picked up)

The cover and interior art were done by: Steve Ellis, Biagio d’Alessandro, and Eman Casallos.
The story itself was really fun. If you like tales of adventurers of different classes & abilities & temperaments suddenly finding themselves in a situation where they are forced together into a mysterious quest (well of course you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be here!) then you’ll really enjoy this series.
To give you an idea of the action & adventure inside, here are 9 of my favorite scenes from the series:
It’s brisk storytelling, just like you expect from comic books, but I really feel like I’m reading a grand fantasy RPG adventure - sort of in the style of Vox Machina.
What’s also really cool is that each volume of this series contains an exclusive Pathfinder character (from this story) and ability stats for play in your campaigns!
With even more awesome fantasy art . . .
Makes me want to get a copy of the Pathfinder RPG to see what I’ve been missing out on all these years.

A new German 6-part Epic Fantasy drama series called “Hagen” may be coming to a television near you (and hopefully me!).
Based on Germanic saga (Niebelungen), whose stories provided rich soil for Tolkien, this series is touted to be a cross between Game of Thrones and Vikings.

Considering we’re still in the 50th anniversary celebration of D&D, I thought I’d share this fascinating article from the New Yorker magazine back in 2015, called: “The Tangled Cultural Roots of Dungeons & Dragons”
For something fun and chill to have playing while doing work or chores, check out this YouTube video, “Lord of The Rings but it’s lofi beats”.
With a cozy pixelated animation of Gandalf, Frodo & Sam, along with a retro synth LOTR musical score, it will make you yearn to go camping with them up on that yonder hillside above the twilight Shire.
(And if you’re like me, it might also inspire you to play Zelda, with its distinctive vintage music on the original Nintendo! If I only still had that old Nintendo . . .)
Well, our path has come to a seeming end this week. But that’s never really the case, is it? The road simply forks, allowing us to choose our next stop.

I played 3E at least as much as any other version of D&D, so I have a soft spot for Pathfinder. Ramen Sandwich Press is just a tiny little data point in the big picture, but we are seeing a modest pop in our Pathfinder-compatible sales, especially our random wilderness encounter guide, Book of Hidden Paths.
If you enjoy fantasy comics with an RPG feel, I bet you’ll dig Helm Greycastle by Henry Barajas, published by Image Comics. It’s a Latinx fantasy set in Aztec era Mexico! I contributed a playable D&D campaign setting for issue 2.
