Explore the fantasy computer game artwork of The Art of the Box by Bitmap Books, featuring dragons, warriors, wizards, and painted game covers by legendary artists from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.
Had not heard of this book so thanks for sharing. I think another book could be made on the typography and fonts used for some of those memorable adventure games. Zork comes to mind. Or Myst. Or Wizardry or Castlevania. Much like the instantly recognizable TSR fonts, many of the game titles themselves are evocative of the adventure to come! ⚔️
Good call! I would definitely be a target audience for fantasy typography, layout and design. All those talented artists and designers are really who sold most of the best-loved fantasy products back in the day.
Glad you liked it, Robin! I can't imagine how many hours of labor the editors, writers, and researchers spent on putting this together. Extremely well done.
This is undoubtedly a fascinating book! Thank you for reviewing it and including so many descriptive images; it really took me back in time and reminded me of several games I used to love playing.
My pleasure, Andrea! I imagine this book is right up your alley. You'd love it and several others this publisher (Bitmap Books) puts out. There's another one I have that focuses just on the arcade art which is really fun. It's called "Artcade". Another one you should check out is "The CRPG Book".

What a great topic for a book and of course, stunning art.
