Dungeons & Dragons Museum: Celebrate 50 Years of the Epic Fantasy Role-Playing Game
Only released on October 10th, this tribute to Dungeons & Dragons over decades past doesn’t seem to have been marketed very well.
On Amazon2, you seem to have to search for it specifically (it wasn’t coming up as related merchandise), and there are only 2 reviews almost 2 months since its release!
I only found out about it 2 weeks ago. Even with all the Hasbro/WotC shenanigans in the news, I was still willing to give it a try.
Totally glad I did.
Here’s the thing, though - I didn’t realize the book was gigantic! Almost 15” tall and just about 11” wide!
The cover with its gilded title, dragon fire and character accents throughout the epic battle scene is pretty darn awesome.
The corridors of this museum escort you through time, going from 1st edition all the way through 5e.
Though no way near a comprehensive history about all things D&D (Art & Arcana does a much more thorough job), I think the authors chose some fun representative samples of both old school & new.
With 96 pages that consist of mainly a left-hand page of lite exposition and a right-hand page full of illustrations, this makes for more a casual perusal without a ton of depth.
(Just like the appropriately named “museum” in its title!)
I think the quality is very good - it’s nice having large enough pages to admire the illustrations without requiring a magnifying glass (or monocle 🧐).
Though the pages are matte (non-glossy) this could still be a pretty nice coffee-table book (if you have a coffee table big enough!)
Your next piece of fantasy fun is calling.

My favorite parts were of course the classic stuff, but there was plenty to enjoy as the D&D timeline moved forward into today.
Do you remember that handheld D&D “Computer Fantasy” electronic game in the picture above? Rediscovered Realms reminisced with their very own game from childhood last year:
It was also enjoyable to see highlights from some of our shared D&D cultural references.
Overall, a really fun book that I didn’t expect and was pleasantly surprised by. What a great way to end the year with D&D’s 50th anniversary celebration!

Until then, Nostalgic Adventurer, may the magic of the past illuminate your museum-like corridors into the future.

Thanks J.Q. I enjoyed reading your review !! Just added this to my Xmas list ! Hope I’ve been good this year 😅😅😅 thx again !
This is the kind of stuff I need to add into my collection. When I die, it'll be a nice little narrative to go with my collection.
