Right on, Bruce! I LOVED this cartoon and find it amazing that so many others feel the same way. Over on Rediscovered Realms Facebook page, there were thousands of likes and comments related to the D&D Cartoon posts I shared there. (Of course, there were a few who hated it and left nasty comments, but we don't talk to those people. 😁)
I read the Grand Tour just before reading this and I thought this was much closer to the original tone. I don't mind them moving from "The Realm of Dungeons & Dragons" to "The Forgotten Realms." Sure, in my headcanon "The Realm" is Mystara, because Warduke, but The Forgotten Realms is much more popular and always has been.
Thanks. I think that Basic D&D is very flexible and all my time playing Champions made it so that I look more at the "effect" than the fluff of abilities in games. I'm constantly thinking about how to reskin stuff, while keeping the mechanics, when I run D&D games.
I haven't read the Grand Tour yet - will add it to my list. It makes a lot of sense for Hasbro/WotC to consolidate to The Forgotten Realms - especially now so our heroes can cameo/feature in the D&D movie and beyond. I wonder what Ed Greenwood thinks of it though. Thanks for sharing!
I couldn't make out Hank's weakness, either. I was never a big Hank fan growing up, although I loved the bow. This Hank is a bit more arrogant than his 80s version, while Eric is a good deal less annoying.
They definitely amplified and/or flipped some of the character traits of the heroes & Dungeon Master. I do like how they ultimately tied the changes to this particular story plot though. Presto will always be in my top 7! 😁
Really enjoyed this. Brought back the nostalgia for my childhood watching the cartoon in the early 80s

Earlier this year, I created a Basic/Expert (Moldvay Cook) character class for the Ranger based on the Halfling (it's a class in B/X D&D).

Cool article, Christian!

That makes sense (and sounds like a lot of fun, too!)

Great bit of trivia about the Forgotten Realms book. :D
Thanks Alec! Boy, did Bobby the Barbarian get BIG, huh?
It’s all down to that one time Presto conjured a months supply of protein shakes out of his hat!
😂 That reminds me of Cartman's beefcake "Weight Gain 4000" shakes!

Presto still rules.

Love the art for the new comic. The gang’s never looked better IMO!
They're definitely looking snazzy - thanks for reading, Geoffrey!
