Rediscovered Realms is capturing way more cool fantasy news than we can share in the weekly newsletter, so welcome to our new monthly fantasy news overflow feature, “The Phantasy Snitch”!
Rediscovered Realms’ denizens . . . er, citizens can now enjoy a curated lite dose of worthy news, products, and rumours from the RPG, fantasy book, D&D, LOTR, mythology, board game, art & archaeology genres (and now have time to catch up on all our other beefier newsletters!1)
And without further ado, here’s what our Phantasy Snitch came up with for this inaugural issue:
The Dragon REBORN Giveaway Contest is still underway. Make sure to comment or share by May 31st if you’re already a subscriber!
Dameon Gaynor accepted last month’s winnings for the Legendary Dungeons & Dragons Giveaway Contest. Congrats again, Dameon!
“Dungeons of Demus” boardgame was one I had never heard of. Join “Always Board Never Boring” as they review this tragically bad fantasy game of 1990.
Journey through realms and light up your tabletop with Mythologie RPG/Fantasy-scented candles. (Hmmm, I wonder what happens if you light “Antisocial Silver Sword” and “Curious Werewolf” at the same time?)
I’m so excited we’re getting to Ren Fair season again! If you’ve never been to one, here’s an informative video, “Visiting the World’s First Renaissance Fair” that gives a little of the original history and what it’s like attending the one in Irwindale, CA.
Check out this fun metal poster of a Mimic by Displate.
You can get them in a textured, gloss, or matte finish. Hang it above your desk as a warning to others or to remind you of that one time you visited Vegas.
FYI: Rediscovered Realms did an expose on the Mimic that Mimic-lovers might find interesting:
The Lord of the Rings cast pays tribute to King Theoden, Bernard Hill, who passed away on May 5 in a video clip on X.
Elijah Wood also wrote: "So long to our friend, our king, Bernard Hill. We will never forget you." Wood concluded with a quote from J.R.R. Tolkien: "For he was a gentle heart and a great king and kept his oaths; and he rose out of the shadows to a last fair morning.”
BTW:
did an excellent character piece about Theoden before Bernard’s passing - “The King of the Golden Hall”.
A teaser by Asmodee Group revealed that a new Lord of the Rings board game is coming this October.
“Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-Earth” is a re-implementation of another board game, “7 Wonders: Duel”
This guy hand carves his own D&D wooden miniatures for his campaigns! (His Warhammer 40,000 army on the other hand is projected to be completed by the year 2270)
If you love mythology, then you probably already know about the late Joseph Campbell. Fans of his will dig this new Roundtable course, “Mythology for Modern Times: Joseph Campbell’s Hero with a 1000 Faces”, by John Bucher, executive director of the Joseph Campbell Foundation.
The first of 4 session starts this Wednesday, but I imagine they will be recorded if you can’t make them live.
Matthew Lillard (Quest’s End Whiskey) has teamed up with Critical Role to bring to life, “Sandkheg’s Hide” small-batch Bourbon (Based on Grog Strongjaw’s purchase in the Vox Machina streaming series!)
50 lucky adventurers who enter their email will be selected for a free virtual 1-hour tasting with Matthew and crew. (No purchase necessary)
Researchers recently found (hidden in a Poland library) 27 original volumes of the Brothers Grimm from the 1700s-1800s, thought to be destroyed in World War II!
With hand-written notes, they hope to reveal how Jakob and Wilhelm chose the themes for their stories and give insight on their working methods.
IF YOU THINK THAT IS COOL, get this: These volumes feature new fairytales not ever read by the public until now, such as a tale about a valiant knight and a princess name Magelona.
Unlike the “Satanic Panic” of the early 80s would have you believe, The Retroist argues beautifully that “Dungeons & Dragons Saves Lives” with some statistical justification from none other than famous TSR artist, David A. Trampier (DAT)!
And finally, if you like Fantasy roundups (of course you do!), make sure you didn’t miss the recent issue of one of my favorite Sword & Sorcery Roundups written by
If you’re fortunate enough to still have any mother or mother-like figures in your life, I hope you get to spend some quality time together today. Unless, of course, your mother happens to be Lolth, the Spider Queen. You’ll probably want to avoid that one.
Until next week, Adventurers!

Some readers indicated they would enjoy occasional shorter newsletters, and I have to admit, I wouldn’t mind that once in a while either! That way I can get to finishin’ the books and other products frozen in Johnny the Wizard’s stasis spell. Johnny’s a real a**hole and deserves to be thwarted. You’ve never heard of him? He’s also known in some circles as “Proc Rastination”, although I often refer to him in the Orcish, “To’o Frk’n Bizee”.)
Interesting news on the found Grimm writings and good laugh on "we have Hero Quest at home" Dungeons of Demus.
This was a terrific issue! Now I'm going back and reading it AGAIN!
