Rediscovered Realms celebrates 40 years of The Forest of Doom - the classic Fighting Fantasy gamebook that launched heroic quests and hooked a generation of adventurers.
No way! That's wild, Obsidian Blackbird. Just a few questions: You still have the adventure you made out of it? I assume you guys had the UK covers over there in NZ? How many times did your 9-year-old son have to die in the gamebook for you to realize you needed to upgrade your fathering skills? 😁
One of my favourite Fighting Fantasy books and one I still haven't managed to beat haha. I owe a lot to this series, it sparked my lifelong love of fantasy in primary school when I found The Sorcerer's Crypt in the library! I love playing them on the app now I don't have the physical copies anymore, but many a summer day has been spent rolling dice and slaying monsters with these great books!
Oh wow, Alex, what a great testament to the power of fantasy and imagination! Thank you for sharing your experience. Libraries and Bookstores are some of the most special-est places in the world - I owe my lifelong love of fantasy to them as well . . . along with, in no small part, continually perishing in Fighting Fantasy's Forest of Doom! (I mean, they don't use the term "Doom" for nothing, am I right?)
It was my first game book at 7 ! When I was 30 I made aD&D game out of it .
Then the D20 adventures came out.
It was the first game I put my son through at 9 :)

My first fighting fantasy was #7 Isle of the Lizard King. Pretty sure Forest of Doom was my second. I don't think I ever successfully finished it.
I've got a few off Amazon.uk which Ive managed to compete with a lot of effort. I think the best Ive done was Talisman of Death.
Yes, Forest of Doom is definitely named aptly! I haven't read 🦎👑 or 📿☠ yet, but funny enough, recently acquired those exact 2!
