Boris covers? How the heck did a small magazine afford those?

Perhaps Boris' fee was a bit cheaper, since these are recycled images, rather than new ones. For instance, the second cover was originally done for the Red Sonja novel "Demon Knight".

Good call Kevin! It sounds like they licensed instead of commissioned the pieces. I pulled out my old Boris art portfolio book, and the painting used on Fantastic Treasures I is called "Golden Wings", which Boris did back in 1978.

😁 Not sure! Mayfair was around from 1981 and eventually had The Settlers of Catan game in the '90s. They even survived being sued by TSR in 1993! Their other Role Aids supplements in the early '80s must've made them some good $$$ which they invested wisely in Boris!

That's amazing. Good for them. I was in touch with someone who now owns the TSR name, I helped redesign and update the logo. He's trying to get stuff out there but has limited funds and there is just too much competition out there today.

No way - that's really cool, Henry! Yeah, there is definitely a lot of competition and politics out there these days.

Beautiful cover art. I've toyed around with the idea of padding my campaigns ith these supplements....

I ran a campaign where I got too enthusiastic about the treasure in these books, and things got out of balance very quickly. Still, I have great memories of pouring over them. You inspired me to pull them off the shelf, and I plan on re-reading them soon.
