Hey you seem tapped into the goods... do you know anywhere that sells the old style pewter characters in small and larger sizes? thanks!

Hi Dan! If I'm looking for oldschool fantasy stuff, I usually look on eBay, or continue the hunt down any local comic/game/book stores that re-sell things purchased from other customers. You may be interested to hear that Sirius Miniatures is releasing the first of a collection of old-school metal Dungeons & Dragons miniatures based on classic D&D art pieces in February. …and I’ll surf eBay too. Do recall some of the better old school brands that made these in the 70s and 80s?

Loved the new song. The older magazines are such fun to read through. I've gotten into the habit of picking up a least one Dragon or White Dwarf when I visit my favorite game shop.

Thanks, Eric! I'm having fun making these songs (when I can eke out enough time away from work, that is!). That's a good strategy for obtaining the old fantasy mags. I'm always hoping to spot them in the bargain bins, though!

Oh, I get so sentimental seeing the ads from the old magazines. Watched a video recently from one YT person I follow that showed an ad from a very early "Dragon" magazine for a convention in the area where I grew up. While the location for that particular one is long gone, the convention itself does still exist.

Reading the store ads here got me thinking about my trip to London nearly 7 years ago. I didn't have a lot of store wandering time available, but did pop into one near the theatre district called "Orc's Nest". Can't be certain of its age, but it did have the feel of a 'been here for ages' kind of shop.

That is a really cool experience, Nick, thanks for sharing! Wandering in foreign towns, looking for fantasy treasure is one my most favorite things to do. Next time I look through some of my old British mags, I'll keep an eye out for the "Orc's Nest" and let you know!

I recently came across my copy VAMPYRE and played a round last week. Too funny to see the add. It's a great little mini game!

No way, Dan! That's one of the minigames I've never seen. Where did you happen to come across it? In an old treasure chest? From a recent quest?

It's a game from way back times. Was a great little portable game I could bring on trips. But a lot of pieces for an airplane - I only tried that once :)

lol - any more, it's hard to even hold a book in front of you with how tight the airplane seats are!

Dude - you found that castle! Awesome. It was even featured in a television show. Interesting how Sir Ian reviewed it in the very next issue (#31) of White Dwarf! I'll have to see if I have that one. Thanks for sharing.

From that Wikipedia article: "Ian Livingstone reviewed Treasure Trap for White Dwarf #31, and stated that "I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed myself on my three hour adventure which I managed to survive. I'm sure others will too, and I hope Messrs Carey and Donaldson manage to realise the full potential of Treasure Trap.""

The old artwork reminds me of Proteus magazines!

I have many newer white dwarf magazines and don’t really know what to do with them. They certainly don’t have the same charm as the old stuff, in part I think due to the different business model GW has these days.

I’ve had the opportunity to work at GW and can also say that the department is sat within was lacking the magic too.

Totally, Genix! I've been meaning to do an edition featuring Proteus. Those were really cool, too. Also, it's cool you worked at GW for a bit. It sounds like it was a disappointing experience, though. The behind-the-scenes business machinery for most companies always seems to lack the front-facing magic they portray. "Never meet your heroes" and all that. Thanks for sharing, and glad you like the old artwork!

I love seeing these old school ads. Some of my childhood Marvel comics somehow survived against the odds, and the ads in those were similar. I did not send in for any of the items, but not for lack of wanting to. Keep up the great work with these newsletters and all of the content you post to keep us older nerds feeling nostalgic!

Right on, Jim! Thanks for the encouragement. This has definitely been a year!

You're so right about the old Marvel comics. SUPER-cool ads in them that hypnotized me to spend much childhood time admiring/wishing.
