All talk and no art makes J.Q. a dull boy, so I welcome you to Rediscovered Realms' new series that lets us gawk at some phenomenal fantasy illustrations - this time by the prolifically talented Michael C. Hayes.
“Love never Dies” made me think of Arwen and Aragorn. I can’t remember if it was a flash forward in the movies or a previous illustration I had seen but the sadness of her being left behind when he succumbs to mortality is always an image that stays with me
I thought the same thing, Dan! There was a flash-forward in the movies that alluded to this event (can't recall if it was only in the extended edition), and I will always conflate that image with Tolkien's haunting text - in the appendix after the Return of the King, I believe.
I was going to research Michael's piece to find out its inspiration, since it is so reminiscent of Arwen & Aragorn. Powerful.
I'm with you, Croaker - they are fully complete art pieces unto themselves! In fact, he sells some of his original preliminaries on his site for $500/ea.
I love fantasy art. These remind me of the art of the mighty Boris Vallejo. Beautiful
Glad you enjoyed these too, Lee. Good call on Boris - I can see the connection!
Very nice selection, JQ. You could never be a dull boy
And don't be afraid to share spicier pictures. We are a all adults here (and juveniles at heart)
LOL Kveto! I will take that into consideration.
Wow, his art is AMAZING. Thank you so much for sharing. <3
My pleasure, Dungeon Mistress! I totally agree with you - thanks for visiting!
These are really great, J.Q. 👍🏼

I found his preliminary artwork just as stunning as his full colour work!

I've got some of his stuff on sleeves and matts. Had no idea he was the source of the art. Thanks!
Thse are awesome!
